Instructions for verification of own domains and CNAME deposit at the provider

What
In order for your webshop to be accessible via your desired domain instead of our simplywebshop domain, entries must be made in the DNS for this domain.

Where
Example IONOS: Domains & SSL > Settings > DNS > Add record.
Example IONOS: Domains & SSL > Settings > Adjust Destination > Forware Domain.

In order for your webshop to be accessible via your desired domain instead of our simplywebshop domain, entries must be made in the DNS for this domain.

You need to know the following in advance: we create the webshop name for the simplywebshop domain - you cannot choose this freely. We will also create the necessary basics for setting up a CNAME for you. However, you will have to make the necessary settings with your provider yourself. If this is a major problem for you, we will do this for you for a fee (35 euros net). We will then need the access data for your customer account with the relevant provider.

In these instructions, we will show you which entries these are and where they need to be placed.
You will receive the corresponding entries from us.

Three entries are required in the DNS:

Example setup for https://www.yourname.shop:

Preparation

First of all, you need to tell us at customersuccess-dach@get-sides.com which domain your webshop should be accessed via, for example: "store.your-domain.com" or "webshop.your-domain.com".

We will issue an SSL certificate for this domain free of charge, which you must validate with your provider using a CNAME. You also enter a CNAME so that the webshop can be accessed via the domain or subdomain you want. You will receive the necessary information from us.

Domain administration Create CNAME/TXT entry

In this guide, we will use the example of the provider IONOS to demonstrate the procedure.

Example IONOS

1. First, log in to the provider IONOS.
2. Select "Domains & SSL" from the menu at the top left.

3. Navigate within "Domains & SSL" to the relevant domain or use the search function.
4. Click on the "Settings" cogwheel on the right to open the context menu and click on "DNS".

5. In this area, you can add the required entries by clicking on "Add record".

Create TXT entry

6. Then select "TXT" to add a TXT entry.

7. Enter the entries provided by us one after the other in the form, e.g. "_cf-custom-hostname".

8. And confirm the TXT entry with "Save".
9. Repeat this process for all TXT entries sent by us.

Create CNAME entry

10. Use the CNAME entry to point from your domain to the actual webshop. Select "DNS" again within your domain, then "Add record" again (as under points 3 - 5) and this time select "CNAME".

11. Enter the corresponding values in the form and confirm the process with "Save".

12. Repeat this process for all CNAME entries submitted by us.

Set up domain forwarding

Once the CNAME entry has been made, a permanent forwarding to the domain should be set up.

Proceed as follows:
1. Log in to your provider IONOS.
2. Go to the menu item "Domains & SSL".
3. For the desired domain, click on the "Settings" cogwheel, then "Adjust Destination".
4. Select "Forward Domain" in the overview list.
5. Enter your webshop link under "Redirect to destination", e.g. "https://www.yourname.shop"
6. Deactivate the checkbox "Also set up for www subdomain".
7. Activate under "Redirect type" > "HTTP redirect (Recommended)".
8. Click on "Save".

Information: The setup works if the webshop was provided from our site.

Activation

Let us know after this process so that we can check the correct creation of the certificate validation internally. If everything is correct, we will activate everything and the webshop can now be accessed via your desired domain. This can take a little time from case to case, but should usually be completed quickly.
